PREPREGS

Prepreg combines reinforcement and resin in a prepared material. Select it together with the storage, layup and curing conditions required for the finished product.

01 / YOUR PROJECT

What to specify before ordering

Tell us which moulding process you plan to use. Process capabilities and part requirements matter when selecting a system: a fibre or weave name does not describe a complete prepreg.

Reinforcement
Woven or unidirectional structure, fibre and reinforcement designation.
Resin system
The specified system or the requirements it must meet.
Moulding
The planned part manufacturing method and limitations of your equipment.
Handling
Storage, transport and usable-life requirements.

02 / PROCESS

How prepreg is prepared

This is a general overview of pre-impregnated reinforcement production. Processing conditions are defined by the technical documentation for the specific system.

01

Specify the reinforcement

The base may be woven or unidirectional reinforcement. The specification defines its structure and required format. Dry fibre parameters must be distinguished from the properties of the cured system.

02

Select the resin system

The resin is considered together with the process and product requirements. Moulding conditions and the expected service conditions of the part are needed. There is no universal processing cycle for all prepregs.

03

Combine reinforcement and resin

In the film process, prepared resin is transferred onto the reinforcement. Some systems use solution impregnation. The method depends on the material and cannot be identified from the appearance of a roll alone.

04

Package and maintain handling conditions

The prepared material is protected for transport and storage. Temperature limits and permitted out-time come from its documentation. Before processing, check batch identification and the requirements of the system.

The material must suit your process

Compare the prepreg documentation with your moulding capabilities before ordering. If the process cycle is not yet defined, state this rather than supplying assumed values. When changing systems, attach the previous specification and explain the reason. List parameters that cannot change without a design review.

03 / QUESTIONS

Questions about this material

Can I use another prepreg's curing cycle?

A curing cycle applies to a specific system. Similar reinforcement does not establish compatibility between resins or processing conditions. Follow the documentation for the selected material.

How should I specify delivery requirements?

Provide the destination city and planned date of use. Any temperature requirements for the selected system must be considered when agreeing transport and subsequent storage. The exact conditions come from its specification.

04 / ENQUIRY

Prepare your project details

Send reinforcement and resin requirements, format and quantity. Describe the moulding method and attach system documentation if the material is already specified by the design.
