CARBON RAW MATERIALS

The form of carbon raw material is selected for the next operation. Tow, short fibre and powder require different specifications and are not automatically interchangeable.

01 / YOUR PROJECT

What to specify before ordering

Describe the next process: weaving, winding, mixing or another operation. Then state the required form, specification and quantity. This allows a discussion of process compatibility rather than a general material name.

Form
Tow, chopped fibre or powder; exact material designation where available.
Dimensions
Tow parameters, fibre length or powder size distribution.
Treatment
Sizing type and other mandatory surface requirements.
Processing
The next operation, system used and conditions relevant to compatibility.

What determines raw material preparation

These parameters help define a specification. They do not imply that every treatment or particle size is available without confirmation.

01

Define the initial form

Continuous tow provides continuous reinforcement for subsequent operations. Chopped fibre is supplied in short lengths; powder is specified by composition and particle size requirements. The form must be stated unambiguously.

02

Clarify surface treatment

For fibre, the presence and type of sizing matter. Sizing affects tow handling and compatibility with the subsequent system. A fibre designation without treatment details may therefore be insufficient for a substitution.

03

Specify length or size distribution

For short fibre, specify the required length and permitted variation. Powder requires a size-distribution specification in an agreed document. One informal size description does not characterise the whole material.

04

Agree batch identification

Record the material designation, packaging requirements and required documents. Retain the specification for repeat supply: reproducibility of agreed parameters matters, not just visual similarity.

Start with the next operation's requirements

If the material is added to a mixture, state its intended role and the system used. For continuous tow, describe the feed process and attach the current specification. When replacing an existing material, separate mandatory parameters from acceptable alternatives. Do not transfer raw fibre properties directly to a finished mixture or product.

03 / QUESTIONS

Questions about this material

Are chopped fibre and powder the same?

No. Distinguish these forms in your enquiry. Particle geometry, size-distribution requirements and their role in processing may differ. Attach a specification rather than using a general description such as ground carbon.

What should I send to select an alternative?

Send documentation for the current material, its application and mandatory characteristics. State which parameters may change and how you plan to evaluate the material in your process.

04 / ENQUIRY

Prepare your project details

Send the material form, tow parameters or size distribution, treatment requirements and quantity. Describe the next process and list the documents required.
